“NIKE – BIKETOWN”

What?

For more than 40 years, NIKE has called Portland (a city in the state Oregon, VS) home. The company has it’s headquarters laid in this area and developed strong ties with the community. NIKE is very proud of the long-term history of partnership with Portland. These two have made many successful collaborations, BIKETOWN a bike share program is the last one. It’ll be released this July. “The goals that NIKE and the City of Portland share with this collaboration are making Portland even more active, vibrant and innovative.”- said by Nike Vice President of Global Community Impact Jorge Casimiro. The collaboration includes $10 million over five years and will increase the number of bikes in the Portland Bike Share Program to 1,000. NIKE is responsible for the design of BIKETOWN’s stations, bikes and digital branding. In 1971 made founder Phil Knight the signature color of NIKE orange. An orange shoebox is instantly identified with NIKE. These two signatures come back in the design of the BIKETOWN bikes. The design also includes reflective gray wraps and logos that shine in the dark, these have a safety purpose.

Society Impact

Nike believes that sport has the power to move the world and increase the human potential. The world is moving less and less and today’s generation of children is the least physically active in history! That’s for NIKE the reason to get kids active at an early age and of course for life! Active kids are happy kids, they’re healthier and more successful. The BIKETOWN share program is made for the whole society (also for kids) to make them more active, happy and healthy!

Why?

NIKE made the BIKETOWN share program for people who’re social and active.

Furthermore have these people the needs of being sustainable, being in the outside, doing things together, helping each other and sharing stuff. BIKETOWN is made to connect people, it stimulates social contacts. Besides that is Cycling an upcoming (active) recreation activity. And at least is it made in collaboration with NIKE, one of the hottest (sportive) brands at the moment! This makes it attractive / inspiring for my and a lot of other young people. The mega trends of a “healthy lifestyle” and “doing things together as a crowd” make this signal also attractive / inspiring. I see a bright future for BIKETOWN. I predict that BIKETOWN will be popular is many other states of the VS and even in other country’s worldwide. It will create healthy, active and happy societies all over the world.

It will also get worldwide fame by NIKE.

*This signal has connections with Human Movement and Sustainable cities.

Because it supports the society to be (more) active. Cycling is a very sustainable way to transport ourselves in a city, it doesn’t cost any form of fuel and doesn’t exhaust gases. This is good for the health of the humanity and the environment.
