What?
This is an app that people in restaurants helps splitting their bill “fairly”, based on ethnic origin or gender. The calculation is based on information of “ The Bureau of Labor Statistics data”. This bureau shows how many less a woman or someone with a collared skin earn less then a white man. Equipay asks everyone a few questions like: What is your gender? What is your age? What is your ethnic origin? And what is the amount of the bill? Then the bill will be split. So if you’re white and a man you have to pay the biggest part of the bill and if you’re a collard skin woman you pay the smallest part of the bill. Equipay says that this is the most fair manner of splitting a bill, the charges are the same for everyone in this way. This app was made in the VS and is available since February 24th, 2016.
Why?
This app is made for people who’re Thoughtful, Willing, responsible and have a thing with hierarchy. These people also feel the need to do what’s right and fair compared to others. This app has a very cosy image, because you only use it when you’re in a restaurant with friends. it’s a combination of the two things many people love the most, food and friends. I think that this image makes Equipay attractive, especially in the Netherlands where people always watch their money. And I also think that if Equipay customizes a few things, like deleting the “ethnic origin” option and replacing it by an option for “height of income” it will be a success formula.
At last I think that this app only will be popular under students, because they have to watch their money more often. Other target groups maybe find the use of this app unsociable.
Open world
Equipay gives you an insight in certain data you maybe didn’t know from your friends. And it also reveals your own “worth” compared to the “worth” or your friends. In short: there will be many revelations and a (unintended) hierarchy of value. It will open a lot in many friendships.
